HAMILTON – The Colgate men's and women's tennis teams are set for their fourth Michael Schonbraun Spring Break Tennis Trip next week when the Raiders travel to Hawaii for three matches from March 15-17.
"We are thrilled to embark on the fourth Michael Schonbraun '96 Spring Break Tennis Trip," men's and women's tennis head coach
Bobby Pennington said. "This year's venue of Hawaii is truly unmatched as this should be the trip of a lifetime.
"The teams each play all Hawaiian universities which should provide some top notch competition. The players and their families are very excited for this opportunity and can't wait to embark on the journey."
The Michael Schonbraun '96 Spring Break Tennis Trip was established in 2013 thanks to the generosity of Bruce and Lynn Schonbraun P'96, in honor of their son, Michael Schonbraun '96, a four-year starter and captain of the Colgate varsity tennis team.
"My son, Michael, had a wonderful 4 year student-athlete experience at Colgate. My wife Lynn and I, along with Michael, feel strongly about giving back to Colgate student athletes. We felt that sponsoring the men's and women's annual tennis teams' Spring Break Trip would be an excellent vehicle to do so."
Colgate men's tennis will have three matches in a three-day span from Wednesday, March 15 to Friday, March 17. The Raiders will open up the trip at Hawaii at Hilo before facing BYU-Hawaii and Hawaii Pacific on the final two days.
Colgate women's tennis will face two teams on Wednesday and Thursday of spring break when they face Hawaii at Hilo and BYU-Hawaii on back-to-back days.
In the 2015 edition of the Michael Schonbraun '96 Spring Break Trip, Colgate traveled to Puerto Rico where both teams faced Augustana College from South Dakota. The men's team also faced Babson on the trip in Puerto Rico while the women's team faced Rhode Island.
Before Colgate can travel to Hawaii, they will play one more match in the continental United States where they will face St. Bonaventure on Friday. The women's match is slated for 10 a.m. while the men will hit the courts for a 2 p.m. match.
