*UPDATED 11/4/17 with Patriot League Tournament seeding results.
BOSTON – Four different Colgate men's soccer players scored to lead the Raiders to a dominant 4-0 win at first-place Boston University Friday Night as Colgate locked up its spot in the upcoming Patriot League Tournament.
The Raiders controlled their own destiny entering the contest, needing a win to earn their postseason berth. Goals from sophomore
Christian Clarke and juniors
Steven DeLeo and
Freddy Jonsson gave Colgate a 3-0 lead 23 minutes into the game before junior
Aram Ouligian added another goal early in the second half. Sophomore keeper
Jacob Harris made a career-high seven saves in goal to secure Colgate fifth shutout of the season. Senior
Jared Stroud tallied his ninth assist of the season in the game to set Colgate's single-season assists record.
Colgate will control the No. 6 seed in the Patriot League Tournament and travel to No. 3 Bucknell Tuesday for the quarterfinal round. The winner advances to Friday's Patriot League Semifinals. Both semifinal matches and the championship match will be hosted by Loyola, the 2017 regular-season champion.
The Raiders came out strong in the first few minutes before Clarke got Colgate on the board in the fourth minute. A Raider throw-in was tapped around inside the box before Clarke booted the ball into the far post to give Colgate the early 1-0 lead.
The Terriers tallied their first shot of the game in the 21st minute, but Harris was there to make the save. Colgate answered quickly as DeLeo and Jonsson netted back-to-back goals at the 21:50 and 22:59 marks. DeLeo sent in a low strike off a Stroud cross to make it 2-0 as Stroud tallied his record-setting ninth assist of the season. Jonsson followed with a shot that deflected off a BU defender into the upper right-hand corner of the net to work the Raider lead to 3-0 with over 20 minutes left on the first-half clock.
Facing a 3-0 deficit, the Terriers picked up the pressure in the second half of the opening term as BU rattled off five shots and three corner kicks in the closing 20 minutes. Harris stopped two while the other attempts skirted out of harm's way to keep Colgate's 3-0 lead in tact heading into halftime.
Ouligian put the Terriers in an even bigger hole less than three minutes into the second half as he headed in his team-best seventh goal of the season at the 47:15 mark to make it 4-0 Colgate.
Harris and the Raider defense took care of the rest as Colgate kept the Terriers off the board the rest of the way to secure the 4-0 victory.
