Yale Hands Raiders First Loss

Fast Start for Bulldogs in 82-56 Decision; King Scores Career-High 21

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A senior-laden Yale squad broke quickly from the gate and dealt Colgate its first loss of the season by an 82-56 count here Monday night.

Summer King led all scorers with a career-high 21 points, but Colgate was fighting uphill from the start. Yale's first three baskets were 3-pointers as the Bulldogs – with three senior starters to Colgate's none – nailed seven treys in the opening quarter and took a 29-15 lead.

The margin stretched to 48-26 by halftime and Yale went on to outscore the Raider in all four quarters.

King posted her second straight double-double to start the season, finishing with 10 rebounds. The junior was 8-of-10 from the floor and a perfect 5-of-5 from the line.

Colgate committed 24 turnovers and Yale turned them into a 28-6 edge in points-off-turnovers. The Bulldogs also outrebounded Colgate 50-35, including a 21-3 edge on the offensive glass.

From the Source
32017• Colgate head coach Bill Cleary: (On the game) "Obviously, it was a tough night for us. But one of the things I've learned in this business is you've got to look for the bright spots, and tonight that was Summer King. We're going to get this thing turned around and we're going to win here, and Summer King is a prime example of what is coming. If you like what you're seeing with Summer, then you're going to like what you see when this process is complete. We can't just snap our fingers. It's day by day and we're going to have peaks and valleys. Friday was a great night and this was a bad night. We can't get too high after Friday and we can't get too low after tonight. We've got to go back to the drawing board, see what our mistakes were, fix those mistakes and be better for it."
