Red-Hot Raiders Blank Cornell, 1-0

Sotomayor Goal Extends Unbeaten Run to Eight Games; Bucknell Here Saturday

ITHACA, N.Y. – Colgate kept the good times rolling Monday night with a 1-0 road victory over Central New York rival Cornell.

Abby Sotomayor scored her fourth goal of the season in the 59th minute to provide the margin as the Raiders stretched their unbeaten run to eight games. The goal was unassisted and came after a deep ball into the left corner created some trouble.

A weak Cornell clearance was collected by Sotomayor, who let loose from 25 yards. The ball appeared to graze off the glove of Big Red goalkeeper Chrissy Mayer but it stayed true and found the upper right corner of the net.

Colgate kept the pressure on with an 11-3 shots edge during the second half. The only two saves made by Raiders goalkeeper Sophia Boggs came in the opening 45 minutes.

Sotomayor took over solo second place on the team in both goals with four and points with 10.

Colgate is now 7-0-1 over its last eight contests, the best streak of undefeated play since the 2014 Raiders went 11-0-2 en route to a Patriot League regular season title and 14-3-2 season.

The Raiders are set now for a big Saturday night showdown against defending conference champion Bucknell.
