BALTIMORE – The Colgate volleyball team completed an impressive weekend road trip with a 3-0 trouncing of Loyola Sunday afternoon. The Raiders have now won four-straight matches and six of their last seven.
First-year
Alli Lowe led Colgate once again with a match-high 18 kills to go along with a strong .310 hitting percentage. Junior
Jaelah Hutchison followed with eight kills.
Loyola got out to a quick 8-4 lead in the opening set and stayed ahead before working its advantage to 18-14. The Greyhounds held set point at 24-22, but a block from senior
Lauren Sanderson and sophomore
Jessica Lathan and a kill from Lowe allowed Colgate to knot the score at 24-24. A Loyola attack error and solo block from Hutchison followed as Colgate completed the comeback to take the opening term 26-24 and grab a 1-0 match advantage.
The Raiders carried that momentum into the second set, getting out to a quick 8-2 lead. A block from Lowe and Hutchison helped Colgate stretch its lead to as much as 10 at 19-9 before the Greyhounds rattled off a 9-4 run that pulled Loyola within five at 23-18. The Raiders kept the Greyhounds at bay, however, as a kill from Lowe cemented the 25-20 set-two win.
Colgate erupted on an 8-0 run early on in the third set to turn a slim 4-3 lead into a dominant 12-3 advantage. The Raiders continued to roll, working their lead to 23-12 following a Hutchison spike. Loyola answered with an 8-1 streak to narrow the Colgate edge to 24-20, but a kill from sophomore
Taylor Flaherty put the set and match away with the 25-20 victory.
