EASTON, Pa. – Four Raiders tallied double-digit kills as the Colgate volleyball team used a strong team effort to pick up a 3-1 Patriot League win at Lafayette Friday night.
Junior
Katie Stansbury (13 kills, 18 digs) and senior
Lauren Sanderson (49 assists, 10 digs) registered double-doubles to lead the way. First-year
Alli Lowe led the squad with 14 kills, while Stansbury (13) and sophomores
Taylor Flaherty (12) and
Jessica Lathan (11) also finished in double-digits.
Neither team could take more than a three-point lead early on in the first set until the Raiders broke a 14-14 tie with a 4-0 run to pull ahead 18-14 and force a Lafayette timeout. The Leopards immediately battled back to knot the score at 18. Two kills from Flaherty helped the Raiders break a 20-20 tie with a 5-1 run to end the set and secure the 25-21 victory.
The Raiders raced out to a quick 7-2 lead in the second stanza behind two kills from both Stansbury and Flaherty. A spike from Lathan put Colgate's lead at six at 21-15, but the Leopards closed the term on a 10-1 run to even the match at 1-1 thanks to the 25-22 set-two victory.
The third set began in a 3-3 tie, but this time it was Colgate with the large run as the Raiders rattled off 15 of the next 17 points to take a dominant 18-5 lead. The Leopards didn't have much more in them as a kill from Flaherty put away the 25-10 set-three win to give the Raiders a 2-1 match advantage.
Colgate picked up where it left off in the fourth set as the Raiders jutted out to a big 18-7 lead. The Raiders continued to roll before back-to-back kills from Lowe ended the set at 25-14 and secured the 3-1 Colgate victory.
