HAMILTON – It took career nights, Cotterell Court records, 10-point deficits, 14-point leads – in the fourth quarter … blown!
And overtimes – plural. Don't forget the overtimes.
It took all that and every ounce of effort for Colgate to outlast Boston University 96-87 here Wednesday night in a true Patriot League thriller.
Katie Curtis poured in a career-high 29 points – eight in the final overtime session – to lead all scorers. The senior was 8-of-9 from 3-point distance.
8-of-9.
And thank goodness for all eight because otherwise the league's top 3-point shooter, BU's Sarah Hope, would have sent her squad home with a sparkling road victory. Hope scored 20 points on six made threes, including daggers at the end of regulation and the first overtime that kept this affair going into the night.
But Curtis answered with two more long-distance exclamation points of her own early in the second overtime, helping Colgate build a 94-86 advantage that finally put BU away.
Curtis with her eight threes tied the Colgate game record set by Allison Lipinski against Lafayette back in 2002. The Raiders as a team finished 13-of-28 from downtown, tying the Colgate game record for made threes (originally set at Navy 2002) while also breaking Cotterell Court marks for made and attempted threes.
Colgate's
Rachel Thompson and
Kateri Stone added 21 points apiece. Thompson tossed in 11 rebounds for her first career double-double, adding four assists and six steals. Stone was the game assist leader with six.

Boston University placed five in double figures, led by Hope and Sophie Beaudry with 20 points each.
Not bad for a pair of teams picked to finish ninth (Colgate) and 10th (Boston University) in the preseason conference polls.
Bottom Line
• Colgate 96, Boston University 87 (2 OT)
Won-Lost Records
• Colgate improved to 6-12 overall and 3-4 in the Patriot League.
• Boston University dropped to 6-12 and 4-3.
Quick Recap
• Both teams led by double-digits.
• Boston University went in front 16-6 midway in the first quarter, only to watch the Raiders rally for a 30-30 halftime tie.
• It was Colgate's first halftime tie of the season.
• The Raiders scored 29 points in the third quarter and led 61-47 early in the fourth before BU rallied to force a regulation deadlock at 73-73.
• BU's rally in the final period shouldn't have been surprising. Earlier this month at Lehigh, the Terriers scored 37!!! in the fourth to claim a 69-64 win.
• This night, BU was a salty 11-of-14 from the floor over the last 10 minutes of regulation to post a 26-14 scoring edge.
• In the first overtime, BU led 77-73 and then Colgate swung into an 83-79 advantage.
• But just like she did at the end of the fourth, BU's Hope nailed a tying 3-pointer to send it to the second overtime at 86-86.
• That's when Curtis took over.

• The senior guard knocked down one triple 30 seconds in that made it 89-86, and nailed another at the 3:17 mark for a 94-86 Raider advantage.
• Boston University didn't get on the board until the final minute as Colgate outscored the visitors 10-1 in the second overtime.
Facts & Figures
• Colgate's win was its first in overtime since a 67-65 triumph at Loyola back in 2014, snapping a five-game losing streak in the extra sessions.
• The Raiders with their sixth overall victory and their third in conference play are one win from matching last year's totals in both categories.
• Curtis in the overtimes (11 points) blew past her previous collegiate high of 22 points. Her best 3-point shooting performance before tonight was 4-of-5 earlier this season at Purdue.
• Thompson in addition to her double-double set season highs for points (21), rebounds (11) and steals (6). The latter number is the best on the team this season – by three.
• Stone buffered her 21 points by doubling her previous career best for assists, finishing with a game-high six against just one turnover.
• Colgate for just the second time this season had more assists (22) than turnovers (18). The other time was at Brown in a 67-62 win.
•
Summer King made the most of her first start this season, posting career highs for points (11), assists (3) and minutes (26).
•
Steph Poland's reverse three-point play – she made a free throw, missed the second but got the rebound for a put-back – highlighted Colgate's 29-point third quarter.
• Those 29 points tied a team season high for one period, matching the third quarter of its 76-69 win over Lafayette.
•
Mylah Chandler in the first half played two minutes and committed three fouls. Nothing else. After the break, she scored three points, grabbed three rebounds and handed out three assists in 10 minutes before fouling out in the first overtime.
• Somehow, Colgate finished with a 46-45 rebounding edge. The Terriers outrebounded Colgate 22-13 in the first half.

• The Raiders are 6-4 when outrebounding their opponent.
• They're now 6-0 when leading after three quarters.
• Colgate's 96 points were the most since they won 97-79 at St. Francis (Pa.) in November 2013.
• In addition to the twin 20-point scorers, BU saw two other players contribute double-doubles: Nia Irving (13 and 12) and Courtney Lathan (11 and 10). Naiyah Thompson added 17 points.

Colgate head coach Bill Cleary: (On the game) "Both teams played so hard; both teams played so well. You could tell both teams were scratching, clawing and doing whatever it took to win that game. Kudos to Boston – that's a really good team. Coach Steding has done a fantastic job, there's no question.
"What a hard-fought game. It's a shame somebody had to lose that game because both teams played so well."
(On the second overtime) "Our players stayed true to what we do. They were very disciplined, particularly in that second overtime, and what a gritty performance to pull out that win. It's huge that we've got that extra day (before playing Loyola Sunday)."

Colgate senior guard Katie Curtis: (On the win) "Sarah Hope hit a few threes there at the end that got them back in the game, and we just knew that we had to step it up and finish strong. It's going to take all of us. Everyone stepped up to the plate tonight. We had great ball movement, played really well as a team, brought the intensity and that's what got us the win."
