HAMILTON – The Colgate men's soccer team outshot New Hampshire 22-6 Friday night, but ultimately fell 3-0 to the visiting Wildcats in the first game of the CU Inaria Classic at Beyer-Small '76 Field.
The Raiders tallied the first shot of the game, but the Wildcats were able to get on the board in the eighth minute when Juan Velazquez buried a give-and-go pass from Alex Valencia into the lower left-hand corner of the net to give UNH an early 1-0 lead.
Sophomore
Aram Ouligian was nearly able to tie the game in the 17th minute when he connected on a free kick from senior
Ethan Kutler, but UNH keeper Andrew Pesci got his fingertips on the ball to deflect it off frame. The stop marked one of 12 big saves that the UNH keeper would make. The Wildcats struck again in the 20th minute as Jack Dickson took advantage of defensive miscommunication and worked his way into the six-yard box where he fired one past Colgate senior keeper
Ricky Brown to give UNH a 2-0 advantage.
The Raiders rattled off eight shots, seven of which were on goal, in the final 20 minutes of the first half, but Pesci withstood the threat to keep the Wildcats in front 2-0 heading into halftime.
The Wildcats made it 3-0 shortly into the second half when Chris Arling headed in a free kick from William Picoux in the 52nd minute. The Raiders created some strong opportunities and peppered UNH with seven more shots during the remainder of the game, but the Wildcats held on for the 3-0 victory.

Head Coach
Erik Ronning
- "Our guys are mature enough to understand that while it's okay that they're upset about tonight's loss, we still have a quick turnaround for Sunday's game. They realize that we had some mental lapses and weren't as sharp as we would've liked, but we also saw some positives tonight."
- "UNH is a very good team and made us pay for some errors, but we certainly created some really quality scoring opportunities. We got better in a number of areas, but we have to clean up in some other areas and then use this as another learning experience to keep on growing."
