NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – The Colgate women's soccer team went to overtime for a second-straight game Sunday afternoon at Central Connecticut State, but the Raiders weren't able to walk away with a positive result this time as the Blue Devils scored in the 102nd minute to earn a 1-0 victory.
The Blue Devils forced first-year keeper
Kelly Chiavaro to make her first save in the opening few minutes of the game, but the Raiders quickly seized momentum. Colgate peppered the CCSU keeper with three shots on frame in a span of five minutes in addition to an attempt from senior
Sarah Coy that ricocheted off the post and barely missed putting the Raiders on the board.
The Raiders retained possession and kept the pressure up, out-shooting the Blue Devils 7-0 over the next 20 minutes. CCSU got off three shots in the final eight minutes of the half, but Chiavaro was there to handle the two that were on frame as the game went to halftime scoreless.
The second half was much of the same as Colgate had a few good looks and held a 6-3 shot advantage during the frame. Neither team was able to find the back of the net, however, as the Raiders headed to overtime for the second-straight game.
Colgate had the first opportunity of the extra period with a corner kick in the 98th minute, but the Raiders weren't able to convert. CCSU's Danielle Pearse then ended the game with a golden goal in the 102nd minute when she headed in a cross to help the Blue Devils walk away with the 1-0 victory.
