HAMILTON –
The Colgate women's soccer team saw its season come to a close Tuesday night as Navy captured a 2-0 win over the Raiders in Patriot League Quarterfinal action at Beyer-Small '76 Field.

The Mids were able to take a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute when a long throw-in by the corner flag was sent into the box. Cat Macklin settled the ball and buried it into the lower left-hand corner to give the Mids a 1-0 advantage just 3:48 into the game.

Patriot League Midfielder of the Year Eliza Doll tallied Colgate's first shot of the game in the 10th minute. The Raiders had their best opportunities in the 25th minute when an attempt from first-year Mara Cosentino ricocheted off the crossbar. Senior Sarah Coy collected the rebound and fired it on net, but Navy keeper Dayton Wetherby was able to deflect it out of harm's way. The teams exchanged shots for the rest of the opening half before Navy took its 1-0 lead into the locker room.25575

Coy and first-year Dom DeMarco both rifled shots on frame within the opening ten minutes of the second half, but Wetherby made the stops. Doll fired a missile on net in the 73rd minute, but Wetherby was there once again.

The Mids were able to add an insurance goal in the 75th minute. Ash Fairow collected a corner kick at the near post and headed it into the net to put the Navy lead at 2-0 with 15 minutes to play.

The Raiders never let up, peppering Navy with seven shots and three corner kicks in the final 15 minutes of action. Patriot League Rookie of the Year Abby Sotomayor fired a ball off the crossbar in the final 20 seconds, but Navy was able to walk away with the 2-0 victory.

FROM THE SOURCE
Head Coach Kathy Brawn
  • "These seniors don't walk off the field with the victory we prepared for and wanted so much, but they did so much to help change the culture of this team. They really took us in the right direction. It's a shame they won't be able to reap the benefits of it, but they made a big impact all the way through."
  • "I thought we got out played from start to finish today. It's unfortunate, but you can't step on the field in the Patriot League Tournament and not be at 100 percent mentally and physically right from the opening whistle. I thought Navy did a great job and was a better team than we were tonight."
