LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Raiders came back from two sets down, defeating Bucknell 3-2 to move to 5-2 in conference play (24-26, 17-25, 25-23, 25-9, 15-9).
Colgate fell to Bucknell in the first set 26-24 after a tight battle with the Bison the entire way. The largest lead for either team the whole set was just three points. The Raiders used a 4-1 run to tie the game at 15 before the Bison used their first timeout. After the break, Bucknell went on a run of its own to take an 18-15 lead over the Raiders. Thanks to two Bucknell errors, Colgate was able to cut the lead to just a point at 18-17. The teams continued to trade points, with Colgate taking its first lead since 2-0 at 23-22. Bucknell fought its way back into the match though, using two kills and a service ace to close out the frame.
Kathleen Harris led the way with five kills in the set.
The Raiders got out to an early lead over the Bison, but could not hold on in the second frame, falling 25-17.
Taylor Flaherty recorded two kills in the first 11 points of the set, giving the Raiders the 7-4 advantage. Bucknell would continue to battle, taking its first lead of the set at 18-17. The Bison then capitalized on five Colgate errors to go on a seven point run to close out the set.
Jaelah Hutchison led the way with three kills in the frame.
With their backs against the wall, the Raiders battled to a 25-23 win in the third set to extend the match. The team got out to an early lead once again, but this time was able to hang on to defeat the Bison. Thanks to two kills apiece by Harris and Hutchison, Colgate held a 12-9 lead over Bucknell before the Bison decided to take a timeout. The frame continued to be a battle, with the teams exchanging points a majority of the way. The Bison tied the set at 20, but back-to-back kills by Harris gave the Raiders the 22-20 lead. Harris would record the next three Raider points on kills, giving Colgate the 25-23 lead.
The Raiders got off to a hot start in the fourth set, defeating the Bison 25-9. The team got off to a 9-0 behind three from Harris and two from Hutchison. After the Bison got the lead to eight at 12-4, they would not get any closer. Colgate closed out the set with 10 kills, three of which came from Stebbins. Harris led the way with five kills in the frame and Stebbins pitched in four.
With the match tied 2-2, Colgate came out firing in the final set, topping Bucknell 15-9. The Raiders got off to a 8-2 advantage over the Bison thanks to three Bucknell errors along with two kills by
Taylor Flaherty. The Bison started gaining momentum, using a 4-0 run to cut Raider lead to five, but on the next point, Stebbins would put the ball away, giving Colgate the 15-9 win.
