HAMILTON – The Raiders were right in this one.
Colgate trailed Loyola 47-46 entering the fourth quarter but saw the Greyhounds score the first 18 points of the period and post a 65-49 decision Saturday at Cotterell Court.
The Raiders had just won both of the middle quarters – 18-15 and 18-16. The third stanza was particularly competitive, with four ties and four lead changes.
But Loyola closed the third-period scoring on a Jeneh Perry layup with 38 seconds left to take that 47-46 advantage into the fourth.
The Greyhounds then began the final period with consecutive 3-pointers from Colleen Marshall and Lisa Mirarchi on their way to 7-of-12 shooting in the final quarter and a season-high 50.9 percent for the game.
Colgate didn't break Loyola's 18-0 run until
Katie Curtis sank a 3-pointer with 2:36 remaining to close out the scoring.
Curtis scored 10 and
Josie Stockill 13 to lead the Raiders. Stockill added eight boards and four blocked shots to extend her season record total to 76 blocks.
Marshall scored a game-high 27 for Loyola and Perry added a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
The Raiders are off until next Saturday when they travel to American for a 2 p.m. tip.
