HAMILTON –
Colgate and Duquesne played in a tight men's soccer game here Sunday afternoon but it was the visitors who came out victorious, 1-0.

The Raiders had multiple scoring chances throughout the game, including back-to-back attempts from Troy Moo Penn and Ethan Kutler in the opening period. Moo Penn started the attack by striking a long-range shot from 25-yards out that ricocheted off the crossbar, down, and back into play. Kutler, who was in the center of the box, then saw an opening and drilled the loose ball on frame. Unfortunately, the Dukes' goalie Sam Frymier was there to make the brilliant stop, keeping the game scoreless at the time.

Duquesne broke the deadlock in the 71st minute, notching the eventual game-winner, after Ian Larson found the back of the net on a lucky shot that just made it past the outstretched arms of goalie Ricky Brown. 20664

Colgate had some solid opportunities in the remaining 20 minutes but was ultimately unable to find the equalizer.

Brown was solid in-between the posts for the Raiders, making three key saves. One of his most impressive stops was on a set piece from Colin Phillips at the top of the box. The senior wrapped a driven shot around the wall and it looked as if it would sail in but Brown came jumping out to punch the shot out and away from danger.

In the opening 45 minutes, both teams were getting used to each other as the majority of play was done in the center of the field. Colgate did, however, hold the two best scoring chances, coming within seconds of each other.

Moo Penn missed on a shot that hit the crossbar, fell directly down -- almost over the goalline -- and back into play. Kutler then collected the rebound and fired his own attempt toward goal but Frymier managed to just get his hand on it to scoop up the shot.

With the game still knotted at 0-0, the Dukes were able to sneak one past Brown, for game's lone goal. In the 71st minute Fredrik Borenstein played the ball to the left side of the box, where Larson was waiting. The Ottawa, Ontario, native collected the pass, took one touch to settle and shot just past Brown for the game-winner.

The Raiders increased their offensive pressure during the last 20 minutes of play but were unable to come up with the needed score.

Colgate is back in action Saturday when it hosts American for its first Patriot League game. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Beyer-Small '76 Field. Live stats and video will be available at the start.
