Fast Start Propels Colgate Past Lafayette

Raiders Score 12 of the First 13 Goals of the Game to Cruise to a 16-6 Victory Over Lafayette on Saturday

HAMILTON – Colgate tallied 12 of the first 13 goals of the contest to take control early as it cruised to a 16-6 victory over Lafayette in Patriot League women's lacrosse action Saturday at Beyer-Small '76 Field.
 
The Raiders jumped all over the Leopards from the starting whistle, taking a 4-0 lead before the game was less than four minutes old. Lafayette temporary halted Colgate's opening spurt with its first goal of the contest, but the Raiders continued its early domination by netting the next eight goals to build a 12-1 cushion before intermission. 
 
Carrying a 12-2 lead into the second half, Colgate tallied the first three goals of the frame to take its largest lead of the afternoon, 15-2, The Leopards notched four of the last five goals to determine the final margin.

- The Raiders regained moments later as junior Emily Peebles scored to spark an 8-0 spurt that stretched the Colgate margin to 12-1 with 10:35 remaining in the first half.
- Junior Lauren Gorajek tallied four goals to pace the Raider attack while classmates Kallan Murray and Emily Peebles pitched three goals each. Senior Megan Ark and freshman Haley O'Hanlon accounted for the other two Colgate goals.

- Gorajek led the Raiders with four goals while Peebles and Murray tallied three goals each.
- Ark finished with a game-high six points as she tallied two goals and pitched in four assists. Her first goal of the game was also the 100th of her career.
- Thanks to her six-point performance, Ark now leads the team in scoring with 37 points (26 G/ 13 A). O'Hanlon finished with three points on a goal and two assists as she upper her season total to 37 (23 G/ 14 A).  
- Senior Jenna Frost also recorded a significant personal milestone as she recorded the 100th caused turnover of her career during the first half. Frost is just the second player since 1998 to break the century mark in that category.
- Freshman goalkeeper Sara Tullio made her collegiate debut, playing the final 5:45 of the contest. She recorded three saves.
- Freshman Mary Kate Coogan scored her first collegiate goal during the contest, finding the back of the net at the 14:47 mark of the second half.

- Colgate held a 31-20 shot advantage in the contest. The Raiders posted a 24-8 advantage in the first half while the Leopards held a 12-7 edge in the second half.
- The Raiders turned in a 19-10 edge in ground balls during the contest. Colgate enjoyed a 13-3 margin in the first half in that category.
- The Leopards were 12-of-13 in clear attempts while Colgate was 10-of-13 in clearance tries for the game.
