HAMILTON – Colgate men's rowing head coach Khaled Sanad is joining forces with US Sports Camps to host the Nike Colgate University Rowing Camp this summer.
 
Dates are July 12-17, with the complete Colgate rowing facilities at the service of all attendees. That includes beautiful Glendening Boathouse on Lake Moraine, located three miles from campus, along with ergs, boats and the varsity weight room.
 
The coaches on staff are devoted to the individual improvement of each camper through technical instruction, racing skills, strategy, conditioning, strength training and the college recruitment process. At the same time, beginner rowers will be given an exciting and informative introduction to the sport of rowing.
 
The Nike Colgate Rowing Camp is open to boys and girls ages 13-18. Cost for overnight campers is $895, with the commuter (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) price set at $585. Overnight students will stay in Colgate University dorms, with breakfast, lunch and dinner provided. Lunch also is provided for day campers.
 
15-Year Colgate Coaching Tenure
Sanad has served as Colgate men's rowing head coach since September 2000. During his tenure, he has overseen the transition of the sport from club status to an upper-level varsity program.
 
Sanad began his rowing career at age 15 and was placed into the Egypt National Team training program just one year later. During a decade of competition, Sanad won seven Egyptian national titles. He qualified for the 1992 Olympics in both rowing and boxing, but was unable to compete in rowing because of inadequate funding by the Egyptian Olympic Committee.
 
He came to the United States in 1994 to learn alternative training techniques. He began his collegiate coaching career at Grand Valley State in Michigan, and then coached the Penn AC elite rowing club befor making the move to Colgate.
 
His knowledge of the sport and innovation in coaching has allowed Colgate's men's rowing, a non-scholarship sport, to compete with programs that have a tremendous advantage in funding and tradition.
