Patriot League Release
HAMILTON – Ben Andersen was honored Wednesday with his second straight selection onto on the Academic All-Patriot League Team.
The Colgate senior defensive end was one of just 14 student-athletes named to the elite unit and one of only five to make it for the second time.
The team honors student-athletes who excel both on and off the field, and has 14 student-athletes to equal one-half the size of the football All-Patriot League First Team squad. The awards are voted on by the Patriot League's football sports information directors.
Andersen has played in all 11 games for the Raiders this season and in all 23 games over the last two years. He started in the opener at Navy. For the season he has 11 tackles, including five solo.
A key contributor to the defensive unit that led the Patriot League with 34 quarterback sacks, Andersen shared a sack in Colgate's 14-10 win Saturday over Bucknell. He also blocked a kick and broke up a pass earlier in the Sept. 12 game against New Hampshire, which is Saturday's NCAA first-round opponent for the Raiders.
In addition to his two Academic All-Patriot League certificates, Andersen is a three-time member of both the Patriot League and Colgate Raider academic honor rolls. The economics major and Madison, New Jersey, native owns a grade-point average of 3.65.
