HAMILTON –
Colgate rallied from a 16-point first-half deficit but dropped an 86-80 overtime decision to Monmouth here Sunday.

Kateri Stone capped a breakout week. She drew the first starting assignment of her young career and led the Raiders with a career-high 24 points on 9-of-17 shooting.

The sophomore scored 15 Wednesday night at Cornell for her previous career best.

Josie Stockill added 21 points – also a career high – and six blocked shots. The senior now has 151 career blocks and continues her march toward the Colgate record of 170 held by Leandra Fuller (2001-05).

Colgate trailed 34-18 early in the second quarter but closed to within 45-36 by halftime. By the end of the third quarter, it was all even at 58-58 as Stone scored 16 of her 24 in those two middle periods.

The Raiders went ahead 73-70 on Mylah Chandler's jumper with 2:19 remaining, but Monmouth sent the game into overtime when Sarah Olson connected on a corner three with 12 seconds left.

Colgate scored the first five points of the extra session – Stockill with a jumper and Paige Kriftcher a 3-point play – to lead 78-73. But Monmouth (1-2) closed the game on a 13-2 run and escaped Cotterell Court with its first victory of the season.

Colgate (0-3) is back in action Friday at DePaul (3-1) in a 7 p.m. start.

"We had opportunities and I'm really proud of our kids. They kept fighting and we made plays when we needed to. It's going to be a fun year if we keep getting better."
