ONEONTA, N.Y. – Colgate men's soccer and Hartwick combined for six first half goals, but neither team was able to grab the game-winner, ending the match in a 3-3 tie.
The hosts started the scoring just 2:52 into the contest but the Raiders answered seven minutes later when senior
Tyler Forbes found the back of the net.
Colgate then saw Hartwick pull back ahead with a marker in the 21st minute, but back-to-back goals from
Aram Ouligian and
Ethan Kutler gave the Raiders a 3-2 lead.
Unfortunately, the Hawks were awarded a penalty kick just before half that they converted on, tying the game up.
Despite some solid opportunities in the second period, regulation ended with the game knotted at 3-all.
The first overtime was in favor of the Hawks, as they recorded four shots to the Raiders' two. After neither team pulled ahead, the game shifted into a second overtime. Colgate held the 3-1 edge on shots during this extra period, including a penalty kick opportunity, but ultimately was unable to find the winner.
Hartwick held the overall advantage on shots at 20-14 but only the slight lead on shots on goal at 8-7.
After the Hawks made it a 1-0 game early in the contest, Kutler teamed up with Forbes to tie the game in the 11th minute. Kutler sent a short throughball into the box, where Forbes was able to finish it off into the far post.
Hartwick jumped back in front 10 minutes later but the Raiders would not falter as they answered with two-straight tallies. The first one came on a free kick just inside midfield. Kutler played a beautiful set piece right to the head of Ouligian, who finished it off with a header into the right corner of the goal.
Less than two minutes later Kutler netted one of his own. This time Forbes returned the favor and laid the ball back Kutler just outside the box. The junior then one-timed a shot into the left side of the goal, blowing past the Hartwick goalie along the way.
To Colgate's dismay, though, the Hawks were awarded a penalty kick in the 39th minute, that they converted on to tie the game.
The match was back and forth throughout much of the second half, with neither team pulling ahead. The game was then forced to extra time in which Colgate hit the crossbar and was awarded a penalty kick. Unfortunately, the Raiders couldn't register the needed goal in order to prevail, and the contest ended in a draw.
Ricky Brown finished with five saves, while Hartwick recorded four.
