HAMILTON – Colgate women's soccer heads to the Patriot League Championship game for the 15th time in its 24-year history in the conference.
The Raiders saw juniors
Jenna Raepple
and
Catherine Williams
net markers in a 2-1 victory over Bucknell on Friday night.
Following a 90-minute weather delay, the Raiders and Bison finally took the field. Snowfall was so intense that the field remained covered throughout the first half despite repeated plowings. The snow subsided late in the first half and field conditions improved during the second half.
Colgate jumped ahead 1-0 in the 35th minute after Raepple found the back of the net. Fellow classmate
Jenna Panepinto started the play by switching the ball from the right side of the field. Raepple corralled the pass and made a move to get around a Bison defender before striking a hard-driven shot into the lower right corner of the goal.
Bucknell equalized in the second half but a goal in the 77th minute from Williams gave the Raiders back their advantage. With a little less than 15 minutes remaining on the clock, rookie
Eliza Doll found herself with the ball deep in the Bison's defensive half. She made a crafty move to get past the Bucknell player before sending a brilliant cross into the box from the right wing. Williams eyed the pass the entire time and redirected it with her head past the arm of the Bison goalie for the eventual game-winner.
Strong defense and solid goaltending then secured Colgate its spot in the championship game, which takes place Sunday at 1 p.m. on Beyer-Small '76 Field. The Raiders opponent will be Boston University, who was a 2-0 winner over Navy in the second semifinal game.

Straight From The Source
•
Colgate head coach Kathy Brawn: (on her team's victory over Bucknell in snowy conditions) "It's always good to find a way to win and on a night like this you just never know where it's going to come from. We fully expected Bucknell to play as good and hard as they did and to amp up their pressure in the second half, which is also what they threw at us. I'm really proud of the way our players responded to the conditions and delays and the onslaught from the Bison in the second half."
"It's great to come away with the win. We will regroup and get prepared for Boston U."
