HAMILTON – Rookie
Jared Stroud netted his first collegiate goal Wednesday night but it wasn't enough to lift the Colgate men's soccer team past Army.
The Raiders fell, 2-1, after Spencer Goldstein's goal in the 74th minute proved to be the game-winner.
Colgate went down 2-0 after Goldstein's marker but answered back two minutes later with Stroud's tally. Sophomore
Ethan Kutler started the play by collecting the ball on the left wing. He made a sly move to get around an Army defender before sending a cross from the endline to the foot of Stroud. The Chester, New Jersey, native then volleyed it out of the air into the right-hand corner of the net, pulling Colgate to within one.
The Raiders rallied off some final chances in the last 15 minutes but were unable to find the equalizer.
The Black Knights improve to 4-4-3 overall and 1-2-0 in league play, while Colgate drops to 4-5-1 overall and 1-2-0 in conference action.

The Difference• Army took a two-goal lead 73:49 into the game after Ethan Spivack intercepted a Raider throw-in deep in Colgate's half of the field.
- Spivack collected the ball and sent a pass across the face of the goal from the endline before Brown could make the diving save. On the other end of Spivack's pass was Goldstein, who finished it off for the eventual game-winner inside the 18-yard box.
Stroud's First Collegiate Goal• Kutler rounded up the ball deep in Army's half of the field. He made a crafty move to get around an Army defender before sending a cross from the left endline. Stroud was waiting in the center of box, where he eyed up the cross, volleying it into the right-hand corner of the net.

- 17 minutes into the game Schilling earned Colgate's first real chance on net with a strike from just inside the box. His attempt sailed just high over the crossbar, however.
- Rookie Troy Moo Pen registered another Raider opportunity eight minutes later when he fired a shot from the top of the 18 toward goal. His try on net, though, grazed the right post and sailed out of bounds.
- Colgate earned back-to-back chances just before the half when Kutler and
Zach Pagani both tried their luck on goal. Kutler chipped the goalie and the ball looked to have gone in but an Army defender barely cleared it off the line for the save. The ball then fell at the foot of Pagani, who fired a shot on an open net but again a Black Knights' defender came sliding in to block it away.
- Army's keeper came up huge four minutes into the second half, in a then scoreless game, after he made an incredible stop on a hard-driven shot from Kutler.
Straight From The Source•
Head Coach Erik Ronning: (On his team's tough loss against Army) "We brought a lot of energy and played great in the first half, but Army brought a different energy in the second half. They changed their systems and our guys didn't match that enthusiasm right at the start. Not that we weren't working hard, we just didn't react well and then Army took the game to us a little at that point. Their first goal was a pretty good play but if we were patient we would find a goal. And we did, but it was a bit too little too late."
"Credit to our guys for staying in the game and battling back to try and find an equalizer. They eventually did and I'm really proud about that. Hopefully we can move forward and respond positively in the upcoming games."
"We'll be ready for a really good Navy team on Saturday"
