HAMILTON  – The Colgate women's soccer team continued their winning habit by defeating Central New York foe Cornell, 2-1.
Â
The Raiders saw captain
Caroline Brawner and sophomore
Sarah Coy net goals in the game, while
Emily Crichlow posted two assists and
Catherine Williams one.
Â
It took Colgate less than seven minutes to register the game's opening goal and it came from the foot of Brawner. The play originated after Williams worked the ball around two Cornell defenders on the left side of the field before playing a simple pass across the face of the goal from the endline. Crichlow was able to find the pass and chip it over a diving goalie for Brawner to finish off into the right corner of the net.
Â
The Big Red answered in the 13th minute, but then Coy tallied the game-winner at the 53:37 mark of the second half to eventually give Colgate the win. Crichlow played the ball into the 18-yard box, where Coy collected it and then slid it past Cornell's keeper, Kelsey Tierney, for the go-ahead goal.
Â
Colgate improves its record to 9-1-2, while Cornell falls to 6-4-0. The Raiders have now not dropped a game since their season-opener against then No. 19-ranked Boston College. Colgate rides its 11-game unbeaten streak into its next contest on Saturday.

Straight from the Source
•
Head Coach Kathy Brawn (on her team's performance after playing 110 minutes against Navy just two days prior): "It was a little bit of survival of the fittest tonight. We are a little fatigued right now with just the one-day break and while Cornell did play this weekend they did play on Friday. With that being said they had some fresher legs in the beginning and it took us a little while to sort some things out. At the end of the day we should be able to do that a little sooner than we did."
Â
"They had a terrific game plan and it's always going to be a big game against Cornell. We are happy to come away with a win and we'll get ourselves some rest and prepared for the rest of Patriot League play."
Â
(on
Sarah Coy's presence on the field this season): "She's come on strong and doing so many really good things for us. The timing of her goals have been fantastic. It makes us that much more dangerous when we have a variety of people who can finish."
