HAMILTON – Colgate women's soccer unleashed a scoring spree Wednesday night as they defeated Army 5-0 on Beyer-Small '76 Field.
Sarah Coy recorded the Raiders' first and fourth goal, while
Catherine Williams,
Corey Persson and
Ginny Whitman added markers as well.
The Raiders netted their first and what would eventually be the game-winning goal just 14 minutes into the contest.
Eliza Doll started the attack by feeding a brilliant through-ball to Coy, who was making a run in behind the Army defense. The sophomore then took one touch before firing a shot past Army's keeper, Jordan Cassalia, for the game's opening tally.
A little less than 40 seconds before the halftime whistle blew Colgate posted an insurance goal when Williams registered her third marker of the season. Senior captain
Emily Manoogian sent a great ball in behind Army's back four, where Williams collected it and shot into the lower right-hand corner of the net.
The next two Colgate goals came two minutes and 34 seconds apart in the 61st and 63rd minute of play. Colgate's third goal came from the foot of Persson, who followed up on a rebound inside the box. Manoogian volleyed the ball toward goal, where Williams almost got her head on it. Despite Cassalia punching the ball away from Williams, Persson eyed up the rebound and blasted one into the lower section of the goal.

Coy made it 4-0 after she fired a hard-driven shot from just inside the box past a stunned Cassalia. Coy collected the ball on the left wing and found an opening on goal. She took a few touches before crushing a shot toward goal.
Sophomore Whitman tallied her first career goal as she posted the Raiders' final marker with a little more than six minutes remaining in the game.
Caroline Parsons sent a strong corner kick into the box, finding the foot of Whitman, who one-touched it home. Parsons was credited with the assist, giving the sophomore her first career point.
The Raiders have now not allowed a goal in just under 543 minutes of action. Colgate continues to ride its winning streaking, shifting the number to seven, while remaining unbeaten in the last nine contests.
Goalie
Brenna Mason saw the majority of time in net and was awarded the win after making three saves.
Erin Cummings came in for relief posting four stops. As a team, Colgate has now set a new record for consecutive shutouts in a season with six.
