Day Two Results
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Rookie
Des Cairns had the highlight of day two for the Colgate men's swimming and diving team as he set a new Colgate rookie record in the 100 backstroke.
The rookie from Australia set the new record with a time of 50.81 seconds, which placed him sixth in the race. His swim erased a nine-year old record that was set by Greg Dunlavey in 2004, which was 51.68 seconds. Cairns actually broke that mark earlier in the day in prelims with a time of 51.12 seconds.
Another highlight for Colgate was
Dan Sweeney's win in the consolation final of the 100 fly. He got under 50 seconds with a time of 49.88, which narrowly beat out Steven Grune of Bucknell.
Colgate started the night with a fifth-place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:33.23. The team consisted of Cairns, Sweeney,
Tavy Smith and
Carter Christensen. The Raiders then took home sixth in the final event of the night, which was the 800 free relay. Cairns,
Paul Kersjes,
Andrew Mazen and
Milos Gak combined for a time of 6:58.22.
Navy continues to lead the way with a commanding lead with 655 points, while Army sits second at 436 points. Colgate dropped a spot from yesterday and is sixth with 145 points.
The Patriot League Championships will be in its final day of competition tomorrow, beginning at 10:30 a.m. with prelims and then it all comes down to 6 p.m. and the last final races to determine the champions.
