Raider Men in Fifth Following Day One

Colgate scores 69 points at First Day of PL Championships

Des Cairns competed in both relays and made the 50 free consolation final.

LEWISBURG, Pa. –
The Colgate men's swimming and diving team sits in fifth place after the first day of competition at the Patriot League Championships at Bucknell.

The opening day of the championships started for the men with the 200 free relay. The team of Dan Sweeney, Des Cairns, Paul Kersjes and Carter Christensen finished in fourth position with a 1:23.68, which was three seconds behind Lehigh, who earned the win.

The Raiders had a pair of swimmers in the consolation final as Sweeney finished third in the final and 11th overall at 20.91 seconds, while Cairns ended up 15th overall at 21.41 seconds. In the final event of the night, the Raiders took sixth in the 400 medley relay. Cairns, Smith, Sweeney and Kersjes teamed up to clock in at 3:27.30.

The championships resume tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m. with prelims and the diving prelims begin at 12:30 p.m. The finals on day two will be at 6 p.m.
