Armiento Named ECAC All-Star

Raiders Defensive Back Caps Sparkling Junior Season with Another Postseason Honor

HAMILTON -- Colgate's Mike Armiento added another feather to his postseason cap of accolades this week when he was named to the ECAC's Division I FCS All-Star Team.

Armiento led the Patriot League and at one point was leading the nation in interceptions before finishing ninth overall. He picked off six passes for 148 return yards and a touchdown, and now has 12 interceptions for 206 yards in his career. His six interceptions tied for the fourth-best season mark in Colgate history, and his enters his senior campaign tied for fifth in school history with 12.

"Mike Armiento had as good of a season at defensive back as I've seen here in a long time," said Dick Biddle, who retired at the end of the seaosn after 18 years as Colgate head coach. "He made a lot of big plays for us and was our best defensive player."

The ECAC's Division I All-Star Team is made up of student-athletes from a possible 88 institutions in 17 difference conferences, and balloting was completed by head coaches and sports information directors within the ECAC Division I FCS membership.

Armiento, a Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native helped Colgate rally past Cornell 41-20 by intercepting two passes for a school-record 134 yards. Included was an 85-yard return for a touchdown (pictured below) that tied for the fifth-longest in Raiders history.

For those efforts, Armiento was named National Defensive Performer and Defensive Back of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards, as well as ECAC and Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week.

Two weeks later, Armiento claimed the Patriot League's weekly honor once again after his end zone interception at Holy Cross set the Raiders up for a last-minute comeback victory.

Armiento, who also led the Raiders with 92 total tackles, 67 solo tackles and eight pass breakups, went on to first-team All-Patriot League honors from both the conference head coaches as well as CollegeSportsMadness.com.
