HAMILTON – During Colgate's last regular season mid-week game, the men's soccer team ran into a tough Boston University team, dropping a 3-0 decision to the Terriers on Wednesday night.

"We just simply were not ready to compete," Colgate head coach Erik Ronning said. "We weren't ready to play and I'll take responsibility for that. I clearly didn't get half of the guys prepared right off the bat and that was the difference. You've got to come out and be ready to compete. It's something we will learn from moving forward. We have a couple games left here, one game at a time, and we will be ready for Lehigh."

Colgate (3-12-2, 2-4-1 PL) was led by Ethan Kutler, who posted four shots in the contest. Zach Pagani also added two shots to the Raiders' total. Ricky Brown got the start in net making two saves before Christian Quinttus came in for relief registering one saves.

Boston U. (6-8-1, 3-4 PL) earned its first road win of the season in the victory. The Terriers received two goals from Dominique Badji in both halves of play while Ali Sozeri added the middle marker. Matt Gilbert recorded the shutout, making seven saves.

Before the Raiders could really settle into their game plan, the Terriers notched the game's opening goal. At the 1:25 mark, Colgate was called for a foul inside the box, awarding BU a penalty kick opportunity. Badji stepped up and placed the ball into the left-hand corner of the goal to lift the Terriers to the early 1-0 lead.

Less than 10 minutes later BU increased its advantage to 2-0 following a Sozeri header into the back of the net. The captain Anthony Ciccone collected a loose ball on the left wing and sent a cross into the box, finding the forehead of Sozeri, who finished it off past Brown.

Despite BU having the two-goal lead on its first two shots of the game, Colgate held the majority of possession during the opening 45 minutes.

With 30 minutes remaining, Barrett Metzger threw the ball into Nick Arpey, who then sent a cross deep into the back of the 18-yard box. Zach Tamen headed it down for fellow teammate Tyler Forbes, but the Terriers cleared it away before the sophomore could get a good shot off.

Tanner Schilling started another attack for the Raiders when he beat his defender to a loose ball in the left corner of the field. The junior played a simple ball back to Kutler, who took one touch before blasted it on net. Gilbert was able to just get a hand on it to come up with the big save.

A couple minutes later, Schilling stripped BU of the ball at midfield, starting a Colgate fast break. He was tripped from behind, which gave the Raiders a free kick 40 yards out. Kutler sent a low but solid shot towards goal that tested Gilbert as he had to make a diving save to push it away from goal.

With 18 minutes remaining Pagani got fouled 30 yards out from the goal. Again it was Kutler, to take the set piece sending a brilliant shot on frame. The rookie curled the ball in, almost sailing over the head of Gilbert, but he back-peddled to push it over the crossbar and out for a corner.

Early in the second half, the Terriers tallied another goal to create a 3-0 deficit between the teams. Fannar Arnarsson started the play, crossing the ball into the box from the right wing. Badji found the ball and volleyed it into the back of the next past the outstretched arms of Brown.

The rookie answered with a big save for the Raiders at the 29-minute mark, when he made a stellar diving save on an Arnarsson shot from eight yards out.

Colgate tried to cut into the lead when Brown punted the ball downfield. Nick Rizzo beat out his defender at the top of the box and chipped Gilbert, who had come out to make the save. His attempt hit off the crossbar, however, but gave the Raiders another good look on net.

Colin O'Neill sparked a Raider attack with less than eight minutes to play when he beat his defender on the end line. The freshman cut it back to Scott Brown, who's one-timed left footed shot forced the goalie to make a kick save.

The Terrier's finished out the closing minutes not conceding any goals to ultimately secure their win.

Colgate is back in action Saturday when it travels to Bethlehem, Pa., to face off with the Lehigh Mountain Hawks at 7 p.m.
