VESTAL, N.Y. – The Colgate men's swimming and diving team came up short against Binghamton on Friday afternoon by a 167-114 count, with senior
Dan Sweeney claiming two wins for the Raiders.
Sweeney earned his victories in the freestyle sprint events. He won the 50 free with a time of 21.87 seconds, and followed that with a win in the 100 free, clocking in at 48.37 seconds. He also took home a second-place finish in the 100 fly with a time of 53.51 seconds.
Andrew Hacker and
Tavy Smith joined Sweeney in the win column as well. Hacker won the first individual event of the day, the 1650 free, with a time of 17:05.01, which was 10 seconds faster than second place. Smith earned his win in the 100 breast, clocking in at 1:02.63.
Colgate also got a couple of second-place finishes from
Des Cairns. The freshman took second in the 100 back with at time of 54.58 seconds, and then swam a 2:07.77 in the 200 back.
Haakon Brekke and Paul Kerjes each earned second-place finishes as well. Brekke got his in the 200 breast with a time of 2:21.41, and Kerjes took second in the 500 free at 4:56.26.
The Raiders are back in the pool Jan. 26 with a visit to West Point to take on Army and Lafayette in what will be a good tune up for Patriot League Championships. The meet is set for a 1 p.m. start.
