HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Colgate women's swimming and diving team and Fernando Canales, the Mark S. Randall Endowed Coaching Chair of Swimming and Diving, has announced their 2012-13 captains.

Lia Kunnapas, Emma Santoro and Ryan Marynowski have been chosen as the women's swimming and diving team captains for the 2012-13 season.

“These three seniors' hard work and passionate dedication to Colgate University and our team exemplify the quality student-athletes that walk on our campus,” said Canales. “They choose to make the world a better place every single day as they contribute to our society and our sport in order to exalt Colgate University and its mission at all times.“

Kunnapas is back for her senior season after earning her third-straight first team All-Patriot League selection last year. She won the 200 freestyle and 200 backstroke at the 2012 Patriot League Championships and was a member of the 400 medley relay team that finished in first place at five different meets and second at the PL Championships.

Santoro was also selected first team All-Patriot League after finishing with 45 points at championships. She took second place in the 200 breaststroke and she was a member of the 400 free relay that took second place at PLCs. She finished first in the 200 free at four different meets.

Marynowski had a breakout junior season as she earned second team All-Patriot League honors, based on championship points. She dominated her specialty event, which was the 200 fly, with wins at seven different meets and took third at league championships. Marynowski swam in both 200 and 400 medley relays at the Patriot League Championships, finishing second in both races.

“These three competitors have great enthusiasm, positive energy, social responsibility, leadership, academic and athletic success, which fuels the fire that enables Colgate swimming and diving to get better as we strive to excel at the NCAA's highest levels,” said Canales.

The Raiders begin the 2012-13 campaign at Lineberry Natatorium with visits by Lehigh and Yale for a tri-meet on Oct. 27.
