2012 TSN All-America Team
HAMILTON – Three members of Colgate's Patriot League-champion football squad are included on the roster for The Sports Network's 2012 FCS All-America Team.
Junior
Gavin McCarney is listed as second-team quarterback, while seniors
Jordan McCord and
Ryan Risch were part of the third-team offensive unit at running back and offensive line, respectively.
The trio made up half of Colgate's six first-team selections to the All-Patriot League Team, announced last month. Colgate rallied to finish 8-4 and post a perfect record in Patriot League play en route to the championship and berth in the NCAA playoffs.
Colgate's Double-Mac Attack of McCarney and McCord finished the season with the unique distinction as the nation's No. 1- and No. 2-ranked scorers. Both rushed for 23 touchdowns, with McCarney gaining the edge thanks to his two-point conversion run Oct. 20 against Georgetown.
McCarney finished with 140 points for an 11.7 average, with McCord at 138 and 11.5.
Offensive Stars
McCarney was the Patriot League's Offensive Player of the Year and placed fifth in national voting for the Walter Payton Award. He ended the season with a school-record 3,778 yards of total offense, compiling 2,372 through the air and 1,406 on the ground. His name now appears in the Colgate individual records section in 18 different categories.
McCord rushed for 1,708 yards this season for the fifth-best total in Patriot League history. Five different Colgate rushers now hold the top five rushing yardage positions in conference history.
McCord increased his career total to 3,144 yards for the seventh-best mark in Colgate history.
Risch anchored a Colgate line that led the way to some of the most impressive numbers in school history. Colgate finished the season third nationally in scoring offense (39.4), fourth in total offense (486.4), fifth in rushing offense (284.5) and sixth in pass efficiency (154.22 rating).
Risch started all 12 games at left tackle.
Other Patriot League representatives on TSN's All-America Team were Fordham place-kicker Patrick Murray and Georgetown linebacker Robert McCabe, both first-team members.
