Women's Basketball Falls in Double OT at Lehigh, 85-82

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (1/14/12) – Junior guard Jhazmine Lynch scored a game-high 26 points but it wasn't enough as the Colgate women's basketball team dropped a double-overtime heartbreaker to Lehigh 85-82 Saturday at Stabler Arena.

Colgate (4-14, 1-2) trailed by four 61-57 with 1:43 remaining regulation, before Lynch and senior Kelly Korkowski made four-straight free throws and forced a turnover in the closing seconds to send the game into overtime. The Raiders then led 73-70 with 22 seconds left in the first overtime, before Aly Byorick drained a three-pointer to extend the game another five minutes. Colgate was leading 82-81 with 37 ticks left in the second overtime, before Katie O'Reilly scored three points the conventional way with a layup and a free throw to give the Mountain Hawks an 84-82 lead with 24 seconds left. Lynch attempted to tie the game with 10 seconds left but missed a jumper, forcing the Raiders to foul. Alexa Williams made her first free-throw attempt and missed the second, but Candice Green's half court shot fell short, giving the Mountain Hawks their second league win.

Lynch led the Raiders with 26 points, nine rebounds, six assists and four steals, while freshman Missy Repoli scored a career-high 20 points. Senior Tricia Oakes pitched in 16 points and nine rebounds, while Korkowski reached double-figures for the second straight game with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Lehigh (9-8, 2-1) opened the game with an 11-3 run in the first four minutes of action, before the Raiders responded with a 10-0 run to take the lead 13-11 with 12:17 left. The Mountain Hawks then put together a 14-5 run to build a 25-18 lead with 6:29 remaining, before the Raiders closed the half with an 11-0 run to take a 29-25 lead into the locker room.

Colgate started the second half with an 8-2 run to build its largest lead of the game 37-27 with 15:49 remaining in regulation. But Lehigh would respond with a 20-3 run to build a seven point lead 47-40 with nine minutes left. The Raiders then battled back to tie the game 55-55 with 3:45 remaining, before Lehigh put together a 6-2 run to build a 61-57 lead with 1:43 left.

Lehigh was led by Williams who recorded a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Byorick scored 16 and Hilary Weaver added 15 points and five assists. O'Reilly also reached double figures with 12 points and six rebounds for the Mountain Hawks.

Colgate finished the game shooting 40.6 percent, while holding the Mountain Hawks to 38 percent, but Lehigh won the battle on the boards 51-48 and forced 30 Raiders turnovers that resulted in 26 points.

The Raiders will return home to face Army on Wednesday, Jan. 18. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. at Cotterell Court and will be streamed live on Patriot League All-Access.
