Men's Swimming & Diving Drops First Meet of 2012

HAMILTON, N.Y. (1/11/12) –
The Colgate men's swimming and diving team welcomed Patriot League rival Bucknell to Lineberry Natatorium and it was the Bison who came out on top as the Raiders fell, 205-85, on Wednesday afternoon.

The Raiders got event victories from captain Costas Hadjipateras and Dan Sweeney. Hadjipateras earned his win in the 200-yard fly with a time of 1:55.03 and Doug Parks took second at 1:59.64. Sweeney took home a win a couple of events later as he won the 50-yard free with a time of 21.51 seconds, narrowly beating out Eric Sokolosky of Bucknell by .33 seconds.

Trevor Healy chipped in with a pair of top-three finishes. He swam to a second-place finish in the 200-yard back with a time of 2:00.13 and then clocked in a third-place time at 2:00.50 in the 200 individual medley. Casey Powers placed third in both distance events as he clocked a 16:57.75 in the 1650-yard free and then clocked in at 4:54.95 in the 500-yard free.

In the 800-yard free relay, the team of Hadjipateras, Powers, Parks and Patrick White swam hard to a third-place finish with a time of 7:14.36 to finish the meet.

Colgate will be back at Lineberry Natatorium this weekend as the Raiders host to upstate rivals in Cornell and Binghamton at 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
