ANNAPOLIS, MD. (3/5/11) – The Colgate women's basketball team ended its 2010-11 season on Saturday night when it fell to Navy 55-36 in the Patriot League Tournament quarterfinals.

Sophomore Jhazmine Lynch led the team in scoring with 12 points, four steals and three rebounds while senior Krista Moser, who contributed six points in the game, had a team-best 10 rebounds.

The Mids got on the scoreboard first, going on a 7-0 run in the first two and a half minutes of the game to take the early lead. Colgate (7-22, 2-11 PL) found its first points with a jumper from Moser at the 17:17 mark to put the score at 7-2. Still carrying its offensive momentum, Navy then extended its lead to 10 points with a 10-5 run that put the score at 17-7 midway through the half. Feeling the pressure of the 10-point deficit, the Raiders picked up their pace and soon found their rhythm, going on an eight point run of their own to narrow the scoring margin down to just two points with the score at 17-15 at the 5:22 mark. The teams continued to trade baskets over the next five minutes but by half time, the Mids had reclaimed their 10 point lead, with a 29-19 advantage.

In the second half, it was Colgate that came out to a strong start, hitting a three-pointer at the 18:52 mark to reducing the scoring margin to seven points. Navy then answered back with four points from a three-pointer and a free throw over the next two minutes to put the score at 33-22 at the 16:31 mark. The teams continued to battle it out on the court, as they made some strong plays on both ends of the court but by the 10-minute mark, the Mids held a 43-30 lead. The Raiders continued to play hard for the rest of the half, but despite their best attempts, they could not make up the deficit, eventually falling to Navy 55-36.

"We have to give credit to Navy," stated head coach Pamela Bass. " When we stopped their big three-point shooters (Myers, Geif and Consedine) in the first half, Membreno stepped up. That is a sign of a championship team.

"We knew going into the game that it was going to come down to rebounds, post play and shot selection. We got some good looks but simply could not finish. In addition they beat us in the battle of the boards. We needed to win two of the three but instead we only won points in the paint."

The Raiders end their season with a 7-22 overall record. Senior Tayler Wejnert, who was named to the All-Patriot League Second Team, ends her collegiate career as the team's leading scorer with an average of 12.0 points and 5.3 rebounds per game while classmate Moser averaged 7.1 points and a team-best 6.8 rebounds per game.
