HAMILTON, N.Y. (2/16/11)
– Despite holding the lead throughout most of the game, the Colgate women's basketball team could not secure the win, suffering a 72-65 setback to Lehigh on Wednesday night.

Senior Tayler Wejnert led the team in scoring with a game-high 22 points and seven rebounds while classmate Krista Moser had eight points and a team-best 12 rebounds for the Raiders.

The game started off even between the two teams, with Colgate opening scoring at the 19:06 mark before the Mountain Hawks replied ten seconds later to even the score at 2-2. The teams continued to trade baskets over the next four minutes but by the 14 minute mark, the Raiders had extended their lead to 9-4. Lehigh then replied with three quick points to put the score at 9-7, but an offensive surge from Colgate, which started with a three-pointer at the 12:45 mark, allowed the Raiders to go on an 11-2 run over the next five minutes to put the score at 20-9 at the 7:27 mark. Feeling the 11-point deficit, the Mountain Hawks then went on a run of their own, and by the 4:40 mark had reduced the scoring margin to just four points. A series of turnovers by Colgate over the next few minutes then allowed Lehigh to tie the game at 22-22 just over a minute later. As the clock wound down both teams continued to make some strong plays on both ends of the court but by half time, it was Colgate that held the one-point advantage with the score at 27-26.

Both teams came out to an explosive start in the second half, carrying the momentum from the final minutes of the first 20 minutes of play. Colgate got on the board first once again, going on a 6-2 run to take the 33-28 lead less than a minute into play. As the half progressed, both teams continued to make impressive plays and by the 17:18 mark, the Raiders still held a 39-35 advantage. Still hungry for the win, Lehigh picked up its pace, taking advantage of Colgate's misfortunes to narrow the scoring margin. Then, with a three-pointer at the 14:46 mark, the Mountain Hawks took the lead for the first time in the game, 42-41. Both teams continued to play aggressively but with just under ten minutes left in the game, Lehigh had extended its lead to eight points. Determined to reclaim its lead, Colgate continued to play hard. However, in the end, it was the Mountain Hawks that were able to find the baskets they needed to maintain their lead and secure the 72-65 win.

The Raiders will return to the road this weekend when they travel to Lewisburg, Pa. for a matchup against Bucknell on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m.
