Football Travels to Furman on Saturday

The Raiders won thier season opener against Monmouth, 30-29.

Sat., Sept. 11 – at Furman (Greenville, S.C.), 2 p.m.

The No. 25 Colgate Raiders (1-0) will travel to Greenville, S.C. to face Furman (0-0) on Saturday, Sept. 11. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m.

THE SERIES
This will be the second meeting between Colgate and Furman, with the Paladins leading the series 1-0, after topping Colgate 42-21 in Hamilton in 2008.

THE COACHES
Colgate head coach Dick Biddle, who has the most wins in school history, is in his 15th season at the helm of the Raiders. His overall record is 114-51 and 0-1 against Furman. Biddle has won eight or more games in seven seasons during his career.
     
Furman head coach Bobby Lamb is in his ninth campaign with the Paladins. He has compiled a mark of 62-34 at his alma mater, and is 40-20 in the Southern Conference.

FURMAN NOTEBOOK
The Paladins return 12 starters from last season, in which they finished 6-5 overall, and 5-3 in the SoCon.
     
Furman is led on offense by All-SoCon slot receiver Adam Mims and the return of 2008 All-SoCon running back Chris Brown. Mims finished last season with 74 receptions for 878 yards and four touchdowns, while Brown rushed for 823 yards and five scores as a freshman in 2008. Junior quarterback Chris Forcier, who transferred from UCLA, accumulated 226 yards and two touchdowns in seven games last season, while fifth-year senior Cody Worley played in three games completing one pass for 20 yards.
    
On defense the Paladins return six starters including All-SoCon performer and Sports Network third team All-American linebacker Kadarron Anderson. Anderson led the team with 123 tackles.

SULLIVAN NAMED PL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Senior quarterback Greg Sullivan was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week following his performance against Monmouth.
     
Sullivan earned the honor after accumulating 254 yards of total offense and three total touchdowns in Colgate's 30-29 triumph over Monmouth.
     
Sullivan completed 11-of-14 passes for 180 yards and a touchdown and carried 15 times for 74 yards and two scores. He improved to 2-0 in season openers and 19-4 in his career at Colgate. He now has 5,587 yards of total offense in his career, which ranks seventh all-time at Colgate.

CAREER RUSHING CHART
Tailback Nate Eachus, a two-time All-Patriot First Team selection, is climbing up the Colgate record books where he sits 11th in rushing touchdowns (27) and 15th in rushing yards (1,996), he is just 225 yards from reaching the top-10.

THE BIDDLE ERA
Colgate head coach Dick Biddle is in his 15th season with the Raiders. Biddle has an overall mark of 114-51. He has achieved the best winning percentage (.691) of any Colgate coach with seven or more years at the helm of the Raiders. Biddle is also the first Colgate coach to ever record nine straight seasons with seven or more victories.
     
He has been named Patriot League Coach of the Year four times while guiding the Raiders to six Patriot League titles and six appearances in the FCS (formally I-AA) playoffs.
     
In 2003, Biddle was named the American Football Coaches Association Division I-AA National Coach of the Year after leading the Raiders to a 15-1 record, and to the national championship game of the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs.

COLGATE VS. NON-CONFERENCE TEAMS UNDER BIDDLE
In 14 seasons under head coach Dick Biddle, the Raiders are 48-33 against non-conference teams for a winning percentage of .593. They have a 34-8 mark against the Ivy League.

COLGATE TO FACE SYRACUSE IN 2010
The Colgate football team will face a Division I Football Bowl Subdivision opponent for the first time since 2003, when it travels north to the Carrier Dome on Saturday, Sept. 25 to face Syracuse.
     
The Raiders and Orange have met 65 times with Colgate holding a slight edge in the all-time series 31-29-5. Syracuse won the last meeting, 52-6, in 1987 and owns a 3-0 record against Colgate in the Carrier Dome. The Raiders' last victory over Syracuse came in 1950, a 19-14 win at Archbold Stadium.
     
The last FBS opponent Colgate faced was Buffalo in 2003. The Raiders won the game 38-15, and finished the season 15-1, reaching the Division-I FCS National Championship game.

UP NEXT
Colgate will travel to Syracuse on Saturday, Sept. 25. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. at the Carrier Dome. The game will be aired live on ESPN3.
