Men's Soccer Opens Conference Play on Friday

HAMILTON, N.Y. (9/23/10)
– The Colgate men's soccer team will continue its homestand when it hosts Lehigh for its first Patriot League game of the season on Friday, Sept. 24. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Van Doren Field. The team will then return to the road to face Long Island on Sunday Sept. 26 at 1 p.m. in Brooklyn, N.Y.

The Raiders (3-0-3) are coming off a 0-0-2 weekend with a 0-0 double-overtime draw with Vermont on Friday and a 1-1 double-overtime draw with Binghamton on Sunday at the Colgate Raider Adidas Classic. Sophomore midfielder Mike Reidy (Webster, N.Y.) scored the only goal for the Raiders last weekend and was named to the All-Tournament team along with teammates Adam Costello (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Chris Miller (Dallas, Texas).

RANKINGS
The team landed the No. 2 spot in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Mid-Atlantic Region poll this week after moving up three spots from No. 5 last week. The team also received votes in this week's NSCAA/HendrickCars.com Division I Rankings.

Colgate is ranked behind Charlotte and is followed by Lafayette, Navy, Saint Louis, Fordham, Lehigh, American, Duquesne and Dayton respectively. The Patriot League comprises five of the top 10 slots in the Mid-Atlantic region, with Colgate followed by No. 3 Lafayette, No. 4 Navy, No. 7 Lehigh and No. 8 American.

STATISTIC LEADERS

Reidy leads the team in points with five off two goals and one assist while Jeff Leach (New Canaan, Conn.), Matt Schuber (Webster, N.Y.) and Steven Miller (Ivyland, Pa.) are all tied at second with one goal and one assist apiece.

Chris Miller leads the league in goals against average (0.43), save percentage (.889) and shutouts per game (0.50) while Leach leads the league in shots (21) and shots per game (3.50).

SCOUTING THE MOUNTAIN HAWKS
Lehigh (3-3-1) is coming off a 3-1 loss to Charleston and a 1-0 win against Furman last weekend at the College of Charleston Tournament. Before that, the Hawks had two wins against Rutgers and Princeton and two losses against Townson and Fordham. The team's only tie of the season was against La Salle at the beginning of the month.

The Mountain Hawks are led by junior forward Joe Puleo who leads the team with eight points off four goals, and by senior captain James Graf who was recently awarded the BRINE Defensive Player of the Week by the Patriot League for his performance last week.

SCOUTING THE BLACKBIRDS
Long Island (2-4) is coming off a four-game losing streak with losses against St. John's, Rutgers, UCF and Winthrop. The team's two wins were over Cornell and NJIT at the beginning of the season.

The Blackbirds are led by senior forward Juan Lanza and junior defender Nik Conklin who both have four points off two goals so far this season.
