The Raiders will host their final regular season home game this Wednesday, Feb. 24 when they take on Patriot league opponent Holy Cross at 7 p.m. on Cotterell Court. Colgate will then finish out the regular season at Navy on Saturday, Feb. 27 as the two teams fight for third and fourth place in the league standings. Tip-off on Saturday is also scheduled for 7 p.m.
Scouting the Crusaders
Holy Cross, which was picked to finish third in the Patriot League pre-season poll this year, is currently in sixth place in the league with a mark of 4-8, 8-19 overall. The Crusaders dropped both conference games last week, falling to Navy, 77-69, on Wednesday before dropping a road game at American, 70-61 on Saturday. Holy Cross' last win came against Bucknell on Feb. 13 with the Crusaders earning a 65-60 win against the Bison. Bethany O'Dell and Briana McFadden lead Holy Cross in scoring averaging 12.8 and 12.7 points per game, respectively. O'Dell also contributes 1.5 steals per game while McFadden is second in rebounds with 4.5 a game to go with a team-high 2.7 assists per game. Whitney Fremeau tops the boards with an average of 5.1 rebounds per game to go with 12.2 points. Rookie Amy Lepley, who was named this week's Patriot League/Anaconda Rookie of the Week for the sixth time this season, averages 5.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.
Scouting the Mids
Navy is sitting in third place in the Patriot league standings with a league record of 7-5 and an overall mark of 15-12. The Mids have won their last five of six games including the last three consecutive games. Last week Navy won two road games, defeating Holy Cross on Wednesday before downing rival military academy, Army, 54-48 on Saturday. Navy will have to face one of the league's top teams before taking on Colgate this weekend, as they face American in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, Feb. 24. Cassie Consedine and Angela Myers lead the Mids with 10.7 points apiece. Consedine also leads the squad in blocking and rebounding 7.2 boards and 1.5 blocks per game. Myers leads the team in steals and assists with an average of 1.8 steals and 4.0 assists a game. Seniors Kristin Bowen and K.C. Gordon contribute 9.7 and 9.6 points per game, respectively.
Last Time Out
The Raiders defeated Bucknell, 62-58, on Saturday afternoon to claim sole possession of fourth place in the Patriot League standings. Colgate is now 10-16 overall and 5-7 in league play. The Raiders used Moser's strong first half to take a 39-27 halftime lead and held off a late Bucknell charge that cut Colgate's lead to two points in the second half by making some timely baskets and free throws down the stretch. Krista Moser (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) scored 14 of her 16 points in the first half to lead the Raiders in scoring. Junior guard
Tayler Wejnert (Ramsey, N.J.) had 12 points to go along with eight rebounds, and sophomore point guard
Candice Green (East Brunswick, N.J.) pitched in 10 points. The win was the Raiders first against the Bison since the 2007 Patriot League Tournament, when an eighth-seeded Colgate defeated the first-seeded Bucknell, 69-62.
Series vs. Holy Cross/Navy
Holy Cross – The Crusaders currently hold a 40-3 lead in their all-time series against the Raiders, including a 65-56 win against Colgate earlier this season. Sophomore
Tricia Oakes (Evergreen, Colo.) registered 15 points for the Raiders as they dropped a road match at Holy Cross back on Jan. 27. Junior
Krista Moser had a team-high six boards and added seven points while classmates
Sami Kozlowski (New Market, Md.) and
Tayler Wejnert contributed nine points apiece. Whitney Fremeau led all scorers with 18 points for the Crusaders while Amy Lepley and Meredith Ward added 11 apiece.
Navy – The Mids currently own a 24-16 advantage in the all-time series against Colgate. The Raiders however, defeated Navy earlier this season edging out the Mids, 56-54, in a home contest back on Jan. 30. Rookie
Jhazmine Lynch (San Diego, Calif.) laid in the game-winning basket with just 13 seconds left on the clock. Senior
Katie Garman (Poplar Grove, Ill.) led Colgate with 16 points, five rebounds and four steals while Lynch had 13 points, three boards and three assists. Navy was led by Kristin Bowen who scored a game-high 25 points.
Leading the Way
Sophomore Tricia Oakes is currently leading the Raiders in scoring with an average of 10.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, while junior Sami Kozlowski is averaging 9.4 points and 2.2 assists per game. Rookie Jhazmine Lynch is third in scoring and leads the freshmen class with 8.8 points and 1.8 steals per game. Junior Krista Moser leads the squad in rebounding averaging 5.2 per game to go with 5.5 points, while sophomore Candice Green contributes 6.0 points and dishes out a team-high 2.3 assists per game.
Weekly Honors
Colgate women's basketball freshman
Jhazmine Lynch was named the Patriot League/Anaconda Rookie of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Feb. 7. This marks the third time this season that the Raiders point guard has received the weekly honor. Lynch led Colgate to a 61-47 victory against Army on Saturday, Feb. 6, their first victory against the Black Knights since 2006. She scored a team-high 15 points and pulled down six rebounds while shooting 5-12 from the floor and 5-7 from the free throw line. Lynch is third on the team in scoring averaging 9.4 points along 1.9 assists and a team high 1.6 steals per game.
Top Returners
The Raiders return 10 players to this year's squad, including four starters from the 2008-09 season. Junior
Tayler Wejnert (Ramsey, N.J.) returns to the Colgate squad after appearing in 20 games last season. Wejnert led the team in scoring averaging 11.7 points per game, followed by fellow junior
Sami Kozlowski who averaged 9.7 points and led the team in steals with 33 in 30 starts with the Raiders.
Tricia Oakes led Colgate on the boards as a freshman, pulling down 6.0 rebounds in 22 games. Sophomore
Candice Green also started in all 30 games for the Raiders last season averaging 6.5 points and 2.5 rebounds.
Preseason Picks
The Colgate women's basketball team was picked to finish seventh in the 2010 Patriot League preseason coaches and sports information directors poll. Defending champion Lehigh was selected to repeat this year, with 97 total points and 13-first place votes. Following the Mountain Hawks in order are American (76, 3 first-place), Holy Cross (76), Navy (54), Bucknell (52), Army (50), Colgate (22) and Lafayette (21). Lehigh's Erica Prosser was chosen as the Preseason Player of the Year.

The Raiders are looking ahead to the Patriot League Tournament quarter and semi-finals held on March 6-7 in Worcester, Mass. Colgate is currently fourth in the league and could finish as high as a third-place seed if they win both games this week.
