HAMILTON, N.Y. (11/17/10) – The Colgate women's basketball team secured its first win of the season when it defeated NJIT 85-58 in its home opener on Wednesday night. Senior
Taylor Wejnert (Ramsey, N.J.) led the team with a game-high 22 points, four rebounds, three assists and a career-high three steals.

Jhazmine Lynch (San Diego, Calif) contributed 15 points and three assists for the Raiders while senior
Sami Kozlowski (New Market, Md.) added 11 points.
Colgate (1-2) got off to an exciting start with a 14-0 run in the first seven minutes of the game. NJIT was finally able to put some points on the board at the 12:35 mark with a layup from Melanie Griffin to put the score at 14-2. The Raiders continued to hold a twelve-point lead, extending it to 15 midway through the half despite the Highlanders' attempts to rally some points and cut the lead. By half time the score was 49-27 in Colgate's favor, with Wejnert having an impressive 16 points.
The second half was similar to the first, with the Raiders crashing the boards and getting some well-deserved second chance points to widen the scoring margin by as much as 34 points on three occasions. As the game came to a close it was clear that NJIT would not be able to make a come back, eventually succumbing to a 27 point-loss and giving the Raiders their first win of the season.
Colgate had a 56.1 field goal percentage going 17-of-29 in the first half and 15-of-28 in the second. The team also shot 88.9 percent from the charity stripe and was 5-of-12 from beyond the arch.
The Raiders will resume play at home this weekend when they host Canisius on Saturday, Nov. 20 at 2 p.m. at Cotterell Court.
