Colgate Men Race V8 and V4 at MIT

Cambridge, MA (4/27/09) - Colgate men's crew competed this weekend against the MIT Engineers on the Charles River

The Raiders fell to the Engineers in the eight event. MIT raced two boats versus Colgate's one, and were able to take the top two positions. MIT's first boat jumped to an early lead and Colgate was unable to keep up. However, Colgate held its own against MIT's second boat for the first third of the race before being passed. Colgate crossed the finish line in 6:31:61, ten seconds behind MIT's first boat, and four seconds behind its second. In the boat were coxswain Christopher Monterosso (Staten Island, N.Y.) and rowers Kurt Miller (Devon, Pa.), Sam Walker (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Parker Paulin (Forsyth, Ill.), Mark Robson (Baltimore, Md.), Willie Fox (New Canaan, Conn.), Eddie Gastel (Glen Ellyn, Ill.), James Clinton (Vancouver, Canada), and Peter Leahey (Mercer Island, Wash).

Colgate fared better in fours. In a reverse of the first race, Colgate fielded two coxed fours that handily beat the one MIT boat for the top two spots. Marc Cassone (Plattsburgh, N.Y.), Matt Woodrow (Glenview, Ill.), Parker Paulin, and Oliver Jensen (Geneva, Switz.) raced in the winning boat and were coxed by Kristen Stonehill (Litchfield, Conn.). Coming in second were Gavin Henriquez (Northport, N.Y.), Rob Bickhart (Villanova, Pa.), Kenley Unruh (Ellensberg, Wash.), Ben Jones (Bryn Mawr, Pa.), and coxswain May Bayer (Boston, Mass.).
