Krista Moser (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) posted 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Raiders in scoring as they fell to Cornell, 74-64, on Thursday evening at the Newman Arena in Ithaca, N.Y. The Colgate women's basketball team is now 5-3 while the Big Red improve to 4-3 overall.
Sami Kozlowski (New Market, Md.) added 10 points and four assists for the Raiders and
Katie Garman (Poplar Grove, Ill.) picked up six boards. Rookie
Jhazmine Lynch (San Diego, Calif.) picked up nine points and had two steals.
Allie Fedorowicz led Cornell with a game-high 22 points while Lauren Benson added 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
The Big Red gained an early lead which they held on to for most of the first half. Cornell earned their largest lead of the game, 20-9, at 8:28. The Raiders then went on an 18-7 run to tie the game with just under two minutes remaining in the half. Moser had seven points as Colgate tied the game at 27-27. The Raiders entered the half-time break with the game tied at 31-31.
Colgate gained a one point lead in the opening minutes of the second half as
Holly Havenstein put in a lay-up to earn the Raiders a 38-37 advantage at 17:20. Fedorowicz responded with a three-point basket to regain the lead for the Big Red which they maintained for the rest of the game.
The Raiders shot 38.8 percent (26-67) from the field and grabbed 41 boards compared to Cornell's 38 rebounds. The Big Red shot 41.4 percent (24-58) from the floor and went 8-20 from behind the arc.
Colgate will be back in action when they take on NJIT on Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 5 p.m. in Newark, N.J.
