WASHINGTON, D.C. (9/26/2008) – Colgate’s
Katrina Zawojski (Palo Alto, Calif.) established a new school record for kills, Friday night, but it wasn’t enough as the Raiders dropped their opening match in Patriot League volleyball action to American 25-14, 25-19, 25-14.
Zawjoski entered the match just three kills away from breaking the previous record of 1,461 set by Autumn McKenzie (1993-96). The senior, who now has 1,462 kills for her career, was held to a season low three on the evening.
Logan Keala (Kaneohe, Hawaii) led the Raiders with six kills, while
Jackie Adlam (Mill Valley, Calif.) led the team defensively with a team-high nine digs.
The Eagles (7-6, 1-0) were led by Rubena Sukaj and Rebecca Heath, who posted 11 kills each. Setter Christina Nash dished out 31 assists in the victory.
The Raiders (4-9, 0-1) will continue league play, Saturday (Sept. 27) as they travel to Navy for a 4 p.m. match. Colgate has won the last five matches against the Midshipmen.
