MOUNT PLEASANT, MICH. (9/14/2008)– Samantha Sandham posted three goals and Moyra Betuzzi added a pair as Central Michigan handed Colgate a 7-1 defeat, Sunday afternoon in field hockey action.
The Chippewas, who improved to 1-3 overall, scored two goals in the opening 10 minutes and never looked back. The Raiders fell to 3-3.
CMU opened the scoring at 3:55 as Sandham connected for her first goal of the contest. A little less than five minutes later, Sandham fed Kim Sihota for what turned out to be the game-winning goal at 8:53.
Trailing 3-0, Colgate got on the board as
Alison Waugh (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) tallied her third goal of the season on a tip-in from
Katelyn Nerbonne (Bow, N.H.). However, CMU regained its three-goal advantage at 4-1, 1:45 later as Betuzzi notched her first of two on the day. She also scored the Chippewas’ fifth goal at 48:51.

Sarah Pedersen (State College, Pa.) collected three saves in 60:38 of action before handing over the net minding duties to
Kirsten Lalli (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) for the final 9:22 of the game.
Colgate returns to action Saturday afternoon as it travels to face Lock Haven. The game is set for a 1 p.m. start.
