Chones Signs Professional Contract With Hertener Loewen In Germany

HAMILTON, N.Y. (8/25/08) - Former Colgate basketball standout and 2008 graduate Kendall Chones has signed a one-year contract to play professional basketball in Germany.  Chones will play for Hertener Loewen, a basketball club located in Recklinghausen, Germany which is located northwest of Frankfort.  Hertener Loewen competes in the Basketball Bundesliga. 
 
Chones helped lead the Raiders to a school record 18-win season and a runner-up finish in the 2008 Patriot League Tournament.  Chones was named to the Patriot League All-Tournament Team and shared the Bob Duffy-Tucker Neale Team MVP award with Junior Kyle Roemer.  Chones averaged 12.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game for the Raiders while shooting 55.9 percent from the floor and 71.8 percent from the free throw line.  Chones scored in double figures 22 times and was a durable player who started all 32 games in his senior season.  Chones finished his career as the 12th player in school history to score 1,000 points and grab 500 rebounds in his career.  Chones was honored in the classroom as well by being selected as a Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member this past May.
 
Chones joins three other Colgate basketball standouts who are currently on professional basketball rosters.  Jon Simon, class of ’07 plays for TG Renesas Landshut in Germany, Martin Marek ’03 plays for Elvissa ESP-EBA in Spain, and Adonal Foyle ’99 is preparing to enter his 12th NBA season and his second as a member of the Orlando Magic.  Foyle, an NBA lottery pick in 1997, is the only Patriot League player on an NBA roster.
