HAMILTON, N.Y. (4/13/08) - The Colgate University women's tennis team was edged, 6-1, by Army in the final Patriot League match of the season on Sunday, April 13.
The Black Knights swept the doubles matches and earned five more points in singles. Army is now 23-7 overall and 5-0 in the Patriot League, while Colgate is 10-7 overall and 2-2 in league play.
Sophomore Samantha Inacker (Lake Forest, Ill.) was the lone singles winner for the Raiders. She defeated Niki Flach with matching 6-2 sets at No. 2 singles.
Classmate Elise DeRose (Williamsville, N.Y.) was defeated, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 singles by Anne Houghton.
Freshman Isabel Riemer (Hamburg, Germany) fell to Sarah Giles-Madden, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 singles and Kristin Beehler topped junior Erin Fenn (Evanston, Ill.) at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-0.
At No. 5 singles it was Caitlin Finnegan coming out with the win, 6-3, 7-5 over freshman Stephanie Bender (Amityville, N.Y.), and Diana Alquero defeated sophomore Jackie Stimmel (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), 6-4, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
DeRose/Inacker dropped an 8-6 match to Houghton/Flach at No. 1 doubles, and Bender/Stimmel fell by the same score to Bridie Burke/Christina Limsiaco at No. 3 doubles. At No. 2 doubles it was Beehler/Giles-Madden defeating Riemer/Fenn, 8-4.
Colgate hosts Binghamton in the final regular season match of the season on Wednesday, April 16 at 3:30 p.m.
