BETHLEHEM, Pa. (3/30/08) – The Colgate University men’s tennis team earned their first Patriot League win of the season, with a 4-3 victory over Lehigh on Sunday, March 30 in Bethlehem, Pa.
The Raiders and the Mountain Hawks split the singles matches, but Colgate picked up the deciding doubles point, winning all three matches.
Junior
Martin MacIntyre (Arlington, Va.) and senior
Tyler Deck (Newport Beach, Calif.) defeated John Nespoli and Troy List, 8-5 at No. 1 doubles. The pair of
John Nogueras (Parkland, Fla.) and
Michael Yassky (New York, N.Y.) easily handed Brent Herbert and John Bolcar an 8-1 loss at No. 2 doubles. In No. 3 singles,
Phil Bernasek (Fairfield, Conn.) and
Ruslan Goussiantnikov (Needham, Mass.) topped Cameron Silbert and Arnaldo Pacheco, 8-5.
Colgate’s MacIntyre, Deck and Yassky all picked up singles wins. MacIntyre topped Nespoli, 7-6, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, while Deck recorded matching 6-4 scores over John Bolcar at No. 3 singles. At No. 5 singles, Yassky posted 6-3 wins over Christ Collins.
Colgate is now 5-8 on the season, and 1-1 in league play. Lehigh drops to 4-8 overall.
The Raiders host Bucknell and Fairfield on April 5-6 at 10 a.m., and 12 p.m., respectively.
