Big Green Bests Colgate 4-1 on Senior Day

Junior Sam Hunt becomes the all-time leading goal scorer in Colgate's Division I history with her 55th career tally.

HAMILTON, N.Y. (2/23/08) – The Colgate University women’s hockey team fell 4-1 to No. 10 Dartmouth on Saturday, Feb. 23 at Starr Rink. After a scoreless first period that saw shots falls 8-6 in favor of the Raiders, the Big Green took a 1-0 lead after the second stanza, despite Colgate putting 11 shots on net compared to Dartmouth’s seven. The Big Green took over in the third period, tallying three goals to Colgate’s one.

Junior Sam Hunt (Calgary, Alta.) recorded her 55th career goal, becoming the all-time goal scorer in Colgate’s Division I history, surpassing former teammate and assistant coach Allison Paiano.

Nicole Ruta picked up a feed from Larissa Roche, and Roche found Amanda Trunzo coming off the left corner boards. Trunzo carried the puck across the goal mouth and put slipped it in glove side on netminder Lisa Plenderleith (Ajax, Ont.) at 6:17 of the second to give Dartmouth a 1-0 lead.

Maggie Kennedy scored her first of two goals at 10:55 of the third period with help from Shannon Bowman. Bowman gauged the puck out of the corner and tipped it to Kennedy who skated in from the side and shot from the bottom of the face-off circle, putting the puck in five-hole.

Hunt scored at 15:21 to cut Dartmouth’s lead back to one. Sophomore Beth Rotenberg (Toronto, Ont.) got the puck to junior Kiira Dosdall (Fairfield, Conn.) behind the net and Dosdall passed to Hunt. Hunt circled the net and hurried past her defender and roofed the puck glove side on goaltender Carli Celmis.

Bowman quickly answered back, just 27 seconds later. Parsons fed Bowman in the neutral zone, and Bowman skated into the zone with a defender out in front. Bowman put the puck on her backhand and lofted it under the cross bar.

With Dartmouth up 3-1, Colgate pulled Plenderleith following a timeout at 17:41 to try to tighten up the score. The Raiders put two shots on Clemis before Parsons took advantage of a loose puck following a face off and pushed it towards the other end with an extended stick. Kennedy got to it and took a shot from the neutral zone that sailed into the open net at 18:48.

Plenderleith finished the night with 23 saves, while Clemis stopped 28 shots.

Colgate went 0-for-4 on the power-play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
