Late Goals Lift Binghamton to 12-11 Win Over Colgate in Women’s Lacrosse

VESTAL, N.Y. (2/22/08) –
Colgate sophomore Brie Moran (Little Silver, N.J.) enjoyed her second consecutive three-goal game, but Binghamton scored three late goals to earn a 12-11 win in women’s lacrosse on Friday, Feb. 22.

The Raiders (0-2) also got multiple-goal efforts from senior tri-captain Lindsay Pittard (Skaneateles, N.Y.) and junior Ashley Didio (Syracuse, N.Y.), who had two goals apiece. Freshman Colleen Bubnack (Syracuse, N.Y.) recorded the first points of her collegiate career with a goal and a pair of assists.

The Bearcats’ offense was paced by Ali Castiglie, who finished with three goals and an assist. Julia Demuth contributed two goals and an assist, while Leanne Musso found the back of the net twice. On defense, Kelsey Pieper was credited with seven groundballs.

Colgate junior goalkeeper Sara Drexler (Pottstown, Pa.) finished the game with nine saves. Sandra Alvarez started the contest for Binghamton and made just one save in the first half before being replaced by Lauren Scott, who earned the win for the Bearcats after stopping six of nine shots.

Colgate raced out to a 4-2 lead before the game was seven minutes old off two goals by Didio, and single scores by Moran and Pittard. The Bearcats found the back of the net twice in a row before the Raiders rattled off four straight to go up 8-4 with 3:04 remaining in the opening half. Binghamton scored the final goal before halftime to make it an 8-5 game.

The Bearcats continued their momentum into the second half, scoring the first three goals to knot the score at 8-8. Bubnack set up consecutive goals by sophomore Meghan Lawler (Liverpool, N.Y.) and Moran to give Colgate a 10-8 edge, then scored her first collegiate goal to set the score at 11-9. However, the Bearcats scored three straight over the final 10:32 to end the game and take the win.

The Raiders will look for their first win of the season when they host La Salle on Sunday, Feb. 24, at 1:00 p.m., at Tyler’s Field. Tickets may be purchased at the gate, or by calling (315) 228-7600.
