HAMILTON, N.Y. (11/8/08) – The Colgate women’s swimming and diving team set six pool records and captured 13 of 16 events en route to registering a convincing 190-108 victory over visiting Boston University, Saturday afternoon at Lineberry Natatorium. The Terriers won the men’s dual meet 185-108.
The Colgate women, now 3-0, established new Lineberry standards in the 200 medley relay, the 400 free relay, the 200 free, the 1000 free, the 1650 free, as well as the 200 back. A dozen times now rank among the top 10 performances all-time at Colgate.
The Raiders opened the meet by breaking four pool records in the first three events. The 200 medley relay of McGraw, Caitlin Curran (Alpharetta, Ga.), Guyett, and Peck swam a 1:47.49 in the opening event to break the pool mark by over a full second.
For the second consecutive meet,
Erica Derlath (Garden City, N.Y.) shaved the pool record in the 1650 with a winning time of 17:06.19. Her split in the first 1000 (10:20.70) also broke the pool record. In the third event, McGraw came back and won the 200 free with a Lineberry record 1:52.19. The sophomore bested the former mark of 1:52.47 set by current Raider
Lisa Marchi (Scottsdale, Ariz.).
Right before intermission, Colgate flexed its muscles in the 50 free by capturing first second and third. Peck led the charge with a 24.20, while Murphy and
Ashley Bottger (Weston, Conn.) finished with times of 24.26 and 24.31 respectively.
After intermission, McGraw returned to lead a one, two, three sweep in the 200 back by breaking former Bucknell standout Lectie Altman’s pool mark of 2:04.59. The sophomore touched with a winning 2:04.43 in front of Derlath and Bev Walker (Marietta, Ga.) who posted times 2:08.20 and 2:09.39.
The final record fell in the last event as Marchi combined with Peck, Murphy, and Bottger to win the 400 free relay with a time of 3:28.61.
The other event winners included McGraw in the 100 fly (56.90); Guyett in the 200 fly (2:05.3), 500 free (5:02.57), and 400 IM (4:30.96); Peck in the 100 free (51.98); Walker in the 100 back (58.42), and Murphy in the 100 breast (1:04.32).
In the men’s competition, Colgate was lead by last week’s Patriot League swimmer of the week Devon Healy (New Canaan, Conn.). The sophomore copped the 1650 free (16:37.30) and the 400 IM (4:12.37). Healy also finished a close second in the 500 free (4:50.79).
Costas Hadjipateras (New Canaan, Conn.) was also a double winner for the Raiders. The freshman nearly missed the freshman record in the 200 fly with a winning 1:57.04 and teamed with Patrick White (Stamford, Conn.), George Bennitt (West Chester, Pa.), and Tucker Gniewek (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) to win the 400 free relay (3:12.52).
Colgate received seconds from Gniewek in the 100 back (54.40) and 50 free (21.99); Teddy Perley (Harrison, N.Y.) in the 100 breast (1:01.92), and Casey Powers (Chappawua, N.Y.) in the 400 IM (4:21.06).
Both teams return to action next Sunday as they host Dartmouth for the final dual meet in 2008. Opening race is set for 11 a.m. at Lineberry Natatorium.
