Men's Basketball Rallies For A 65-60 Win Over Dartmouth

HANOVER, N.H. (11/22/08) – Sophomore Mike Venezia (Westfield, NJ) tallied a team-high 14 points as Colgate (2-0) rallied for a 65-60 win over Dartmouth (0-3) Saturday night in a non-conference game at Leede Arena.
 
Also in double figures for the Raiders was freshman Yaw Gyawu (Lilburn, GA) with 13 points and senior Alex Woodhouse (Alexandria, VA) with 12.  The Big Green was led by Alex Barnett with 22 points, while David Rufful added 10.
 
Colgate trailed 32-26 at the intermission before falling behind by seven earlier in the second half.  The Raiders, however, scored nine straight points to take a 36-34 lead with 15:49 remaining.  Woodhouse had a pair of baskets and a free throw and Willie Morse (State College, PA) had four points including the go-ahead basket during the run.
 
After Dartmouth scored on a free throw by Barnett, Colgate scored seven straight points to take control of the contest.  Morse tallied a three pointer and Woodhouse had back-to-back baskets.
 
Colgate led by as many as 11 points with 9:22 left, and the closest Dartmouth would come was four points with 18 seconds remaining.
 
Woodhouse and Tre Vinson (Arlington, TX) had six rebounds apiece for the Raiders.  Colgate shot 53 percent for the game making 22-of-42 field goal attempts, while Dartmouth managed only 38 percent.
 
Colgate will open its home season on Wednesday when the Raiders play host to Kennesaw State at 7:30 p.m.
