STORRS, Conn. (10/10/2008) – Colgate University women’s hockey team dropped a tough one to Connecticut 4-1 on Friday, Oct. 10 at Freitas Ice Forum. The Huskies scored three in the third to escape with the victory.
Connecticut came out in the first period with early control, scoring just 3:32 into the game.

Lisa Plenderleith (Ajax, Ont.). It was the Huskies first of three power-play goals.
The Raiders were able to light the lamp at 16:31 of the first when tri-captain
Sam Hunt (Calgary, Alta) scored an unassisted power play goal from the slot. The goal was Hunt’s second of the young season, both of which in power-play fashion. The Raiders out shot Connecticut 13-5 in the opening period, but settled for a 1-1 tie during the first intermission.
Both squads came out on fire in the second, putting 13 shots on net, but the neither team could sneak one past the goaltenders as the score stayed knotted 1-1 after two.
The Raiders’ sent five players to the box in the third as the Huskies took advantage with back-to-back power-play goals by Binning and Thibault at 5:58 and 7:15 to build a two goal lead. Both power-play goals were assisted by Nicole Tritter. Connecticut would finish the scoring at the 9:54 mark off a shot from Brittany Murphy. Murphy’s goal was the only even strength goal of the contest
The Huskies finished the period with 16 shots, to the Raiders’ seven.
Plenderleith finished the day with 24 saves, while Alexandra Garcia turned away 25 shots for Connecticut.
The Raider’s went 1-11 on the power-play while Connecticut went 3-10.
Colgate (1-1) travels to Providence tomorrow Saturday, Oct. 11 for an afternoon battle at 4 p.m. live stats will be available for the game. Links will be provided on the Colgate Athletics Web site.
