Harvard Rolls Over Colgate 77-57 In Men's Basketball

Kendall Chones tallied 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Raiders.
 
CAMBRIDGE, MA (1/8/2008) – Four Harvard players were in double figures as the Crimson defeated cold-shooting Colgate 77-57 Tuesday night at Lavietes Pavilion.

Harvard (6-11) wins its second straight game and fourth straight over Colgate (8-6), while the Raiders have a two-game winning streak snapped.
 
Sophomore forward Pat Magnarelli led Harvard in scoring with 12 points, while Jeremy Lin added 17.  Brad Unger and Andrew Pusar had 12 and 10 points, respectively, for the Crimson.
 
Kyle Roemer (Martinez, CA) was Colgate’s leading scorer with 19 points, while Kendall Chones (Cleveland, OH) tallied 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds.  Daniel Waddy (Tucson, AZ) added 11 points for the Raiders.
 
Harvard shot 43 percent from the field, and nailed 8-of-15 3-pointers, while the Raiders managed only 37 percent, including 4-of-19 from behind the arc.  The Crimson was 19-of-22 from the free throw line, and Colgate only 7-of-13.
 
With the score tied at 5-5, Colgate scored seven straight points to take its biggest lead of the game, 12-5, with 15:55 left.  Harvard came right back with a 13-4 run to take its first lead, 18-16, on Dan McGeary’s 3-pointer with 11:38 remaining.
Over the next three minutes the Raiders outscored Harvard 8-2 to take a four-point lead, 24-20, when Roemer scored with 9:36 left.  Colgate went ice-cold from the field managing only one field goal, and a total of three points for the remainder of the first half.  Colgate trailed by one point, 28-27, before Harvard scored seven straight to take a 35-27 halftime lead.
 
In the second half, Harvard quickly extended its lead to 11 points, before Colgate was able to close to within six, 44-38.  The Crimson immediately answered the challenge with an 11-point run over the next four minutes to take control of the contest.  The closest Colgate came was 11 points with 5:59 remaining.
